Reinforcements from the UNITED KINGDOM will take at
least two months to reach MALAYA. Thus if reinforcements for
HONG KONG are sent initially from MALAYA it will be two
months before they can be replaced from the UNITED KINGDOM.
and it will be another month before the replacements are
ready for operations in that country.
GHQ FARELF have committed the whole of their
theatre reserve to operations in MALAYA. Therefore, the
despatch of infantry battalions at this stage to HONG KONG
will inevitably curtail operations and may lead to some
deterioration of the operational situation until the
reinforcements from the UNITED KINGDOM have arrived.

In the UNITED KINGDOM, at fourteen days notice,
there is one brigade HQ and four infantry battalions earmarked
to proceed overseas. The necessary supporting units to make
up a brigade group of all arms are available at twenty eight
days notice. One armoured regiment is at fourteen days
notice.

If a brigade group (three battalions) is sent to the
FAR EAST, there will be left in the UNITED KINGDOM as a
strategic reserve an infantry brigade HQ and three battalions.
