Addition of
section 55A
to the
principal Ordinance.
An Ordinance to amend the Telephone Ordinance, 1925.
BE it enacted by the Governor of Hong Kong, with the advice
and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:-
1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Telephone Amendment
Ordinance, 1943, and shall be read as one with the Telephone Ordinance,
1925, hereinafter referred to as the principal Ordinance.
2. The principal Ordinance is hereby amended by the
insertion therein of the following section as section 55A immediately after
section 55 thereof:-
"Power to order inspection of records and interception of messages.
55A. Where it appears to the Governor that such
a course is expedient in the course of investigation
of a suspected offence or offences against any law of
the Colony he may by warrant under his hand require the
Company to afford to any person named in the warrant
access to their records of subscribers or facilities for
the installation and maintenance of means of intercep-
tion or of making a record of any message or class of
messages to or from any person or class of persons or
relating to any particular subject transmitted or likely
to be transmitted by the undertaking",
