EXTRACT FROM A LETTER ADDRESSED TO MR. J. B. SIDEBOTHAM BY

SIR ALEXANDER GRANTHAM.

*

Government House,

Hong Kong.

30th July, 1948.

*

Other visitors that we have had

have been the Stevensons, the British Ambassador in Nanking, who spent four days here on their way to the United Kingdom.

I had a number of useful discussions with him, the most fruitful being on Kowloon City. You will have seen from our official telegram on the subject that he has come round to our point of view that the Hong Kong proposal that the case should go to international arbitration is, in all circumstances, the best one to adopt.
