Dear Sidebotham,
The Chinese Embassy inform us that their Minister for Foreign Affairs will be arriving in London on the evening of Wednesday 27th October and leaving again on the 29th.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs will of course be seeing our Secretary of State, and we may be fairly certain that the question of the walled city of Kowloon will be raised. To enable us to brief our Secretary of State, we should very much like to have the views of the Governor of Hong Kong in answer to your saving telegram No. 200 of the 10th September. I realize that you have,
already telegraphed to him on the 6th October. (288)
Nevertheless, in the circumstances we should be most grateful if you could send him a further telegram, asking him for a reply by telegram, by say the middle of next week if that is not asking too much.
J. B. Sidebotham, Esq.,
Yours sincerely,
Colonial Office.
