It was necessary this morning to take further Police action in regard to the Kowloon City squatters. will be recalled that on 27th November last, the squattern were given notice to remove. On their noncompliance, a Megietraio's order for eviction was obtained. After severel additional warnings and repeated offers of free alternativa sites, the Kowloon City squatters huts were compulsorily dismantled on 5th January, Since then, in defiance of the Magistrate's order, a number of these illegal structures have been re-created on the former sitea. Police aotion taken this morning to move them was met by resistance. As the Police party approached through a na prow alley leading to the Walled City, they were met by loud shots and a heavy barrage of stones from a crowd of over 100 persona. Several of the Police were hit and the mob was obviously acting on a pre-arranged plan. Police efforts to quieten the mob were drowned in the clamour and it was necessary for the Police them to fire warning shote from revolvere into the ground, These warnings were without effect on the crowd, which continued to close in, Teer amoke man then used and hed the desired effect of diapereing the crowd, which allowed the main party of the Police to proceed and carry out their orders. There were no further incidents and the illegal structures were then dismantled. After the dispersal of the crowd, five persons came to the Polies and received medical attention.. Four had minor injuries and one a flash wound in the thigh.
