Add to my preceding telegram :-
Although attack started about 1300 and I
asked for additional protection from Chief of Police at 1330, Martin stayed in Consulate until 1500 and Blackwell and myself until after 1530, when buildings were set on fire under us and we were burnt out, as also was Butterfield's English staff. Mob hurled objects at us when leaving under scanty Police protection, which explains injuries. I am informed Chung Shan University students were ringleaders. Murray leaves today en route to Shanghai to discuss plans concerning Information Section. See my immediately following telegram.
