An interesting development of the Shaneen
incident of 16th January is the banning on 20th January by s Canton authorities of entry
into Canton of two Chinese newspapero, the Kung Sheung Daily News and the Sing Tao Daily News, which are published in Janina. It is stated that instructions have boon given that only reports authorized by official Chinees Contral News Agency should be published in connection with Shameon incident.

The Sing Tao Daily News, apparently foreseeing en incident, had its own photographer on the opot on 16th January and published on 17th January 14 photographs of demonstrations in Canton and burning of British Consulate, These photographs clearly show organised nature of demonstration; two of the purport to show Lam Yak Chung, Speaker of Kuangtung Provincial Assembly and a prominent member of Kuomintang, taking a leading part in the demonstration.
3. The Kung Sheung Daily News on 17th January published a report to the effect that among the mob were members of Sam Man Chu Xi Youth Corpe in uniform who obstructed the progresa of the Fire Brigade towards tho burning Consulate. On 18th January this newspaper also published a report in which it was suggested that T.V. Soong and other officials might be dismissed on account of the incident.
Lie The Sing Tan Daily News is owned by A.W. Boon Haw, Chinese millionaire who made his fartuno in Malaya It is under the influence of Kucmintang. The Kung Sheung Daily News le financed by Ho Tung family and is not under the influence of any political party.
