An interesting development of the Shameen

incident of 16th January is the banning on 20th January by (3 corrupt groups)s

into Canton of two Chinese newspapers, the Kung Sheung Daily News and the Sing Tao Daily News, which are published in Janina. It is stated that instructions have been given that only reports authorized by official Chinese Central News Agency should be published in connection with Shameen incident.

2. The Sing Tao Daily News, apparently foreseeing an incident, had its own photographer on the spot on 16th January and published on 17th January 14 photographa of demonstrations in Canton and burning of British Consulate. These photographs clearly show organised nature of demonstration; two of them purport to show Lam Yik Chung s Speaker of Kuangtung Provincial Assembly and a prominent member of Kuomintang, taking a leading part in the demonstration.

3.

The Kung Sheung Daily News on 17th January published a report to the effect that among the mob were members of Sam Man Chu Yi Youth Corps in uniform who obstructed the progress of the Fire Brigade towards the burning Consulate, On 18th January this newspaper aleo published a report in which it was suggested that T.V. Soong and other officials might be dismissed on account of the incidenta

40 The Sing Tao Daily News is owned by A.W. Boon Haw, Chinese millionaire who made his fortune in Malaya, It is under the influence of Kuomintang. The Kung Sheung Daily Wewa le Cinanced by Ho Tung family and is not under the influence of any political party.
