After

now China and Britain are included in the family of the

Five Great Powers and the demand for the retrocession of

Hong Kong meets with the sympathy of all Chinese. a century of British rule Hong Kong, one of the greatest

ports and economic centres in the Far East, is regarded as

one of the brightest jewels in the British Crown. The

British desire to retain Hong Kong to further their

commercial interests, while China wants Hong Kong for the

sake of her national dignity, just as she fought Japan to

recover the North eastern Provinces and Taiwan. China and

Britain fought side by side during the war and the British

people should realize that to retain this co-operation with

China is better than to keep Hong Kong. Many thinkin g

British people have expressed such an opinion in recent

years but whether the British Government holds this view
