"Sixty taels of gold were thus obtained. As to Mr. Shum's

" merit or dishonour, the several tens of thousands of ove seas

" Chinese in Hongkong can furnish the greatest testimony.

11

Mr. Shum is therefore pardonable observing that he

" had been forced by the enemy to continue publication of the

" "Wah Kiu Yat Po' during the occupation. With this in view, we

" earnestly appeal to Your Excellency to allow the 'Wah Kiu Yat Po

"to enter Canton for circulation, so as to facilitate the

19 propaganda work in connection with our national rehabilitation

" and to meet the wishes of the overseas Chinese.

Awaiting your kind consideration in this matter.
