I expressed a little surprise and said that I supposed that if the Chinese Government wanted to raise the question of making an alteration in the status of Kowloon city, they would make representations on the subject to His Majesty's Government.

6: Kowloon city is an andient walled city of approximately 8 acres in extent within the new or leased territories situated west of Kal Tak aerodrome.
7. By the Peking Convention of 1898, it was agreed that limits of British territory should be enlarged under a 99 year lease. Kowloon city was not excluded from the leased territory, but it was stipulated that within Kowloon city, the Chinese officials then stationed there should continue to exercise jurisdiction except so far as might be inconsistent with military requirements for the defence of Hong Kong.. In 1899. exercise of this jurisdiction by Chinese officials was found to be inconsistent with military requirements, and was accordingly terminated by the Kowloon City Order in Counc11. Since then, British authorities have administered sole jurisdiction in Kowloon city as in the remainder of new territories. Ends.
