The present position, however, is that the Chiefs of Staff seem to have accepted the view that there can be no question of anyone other than Sir Mark Young taking over the Colony as Civil Governor on the resumption of Civil Administration, and are now considering the matter on the basis of extending the military period.
I don't think that we should have any comments to offer on the substance of the Defence Committee paper, and Sir George Gater has sugested that since Mr. Creech Jones will be unable to attend this meeting of the Committee, he might like to send a brief minute to the Prime Minister, saying that he has no comments to offer on the paper.
