scheduleu uaily passenger services to points in Chine.
No enquiry nas been received from Pan American Airways to resume operations and this is presumably ecause the Company no longer uses flying boats and is not prepared to operate modern landplanes from Kai Tak. Air France and K.N.I.L.. have as yet indicated no plans to fly to Hong Kong and China but is assumed that these companies intend to take part in commercial aviation in this part of the world as soon as they can obtain the necessary equipment. British Commonwealth Pacific Airways and Qantas Airways may also wish to include Hong Kong in their routes.
If Hong Kong were provided with a modern airport it will have the following advantages over an airfield situated at Cantons-
(a) The airport will be built to conform with the latest civil
aeronautical standards and will bear the weight of the largest type of landplane likely to be used in the next 20 years.
(b) Air traffic control will be officient and the technical
services including radio aids and communication facilities will be kept to the standards required by first class operators.
(c) Commercial air companies will enjoy stability of trade
and commerce and their security will not be effected by possible civil disturbances in China.
(d) Airfield dues and charges will be levied in accordance
with international agreement and all operators will be treated on an equel footing.
(e) Customs dues in Hong Kong are unrestrictive and the
formalities to import and export will no doubt to be much less than at a Chinese port of entry.
(f) Airlines can make direct connection with ocean going shipping.
