The Ministry of Civil Aviation with its wide view of aeronautical development should be well qualified to assess aviation's future in the Far East. Without considerably more knowledge than is available here it is impossible to predict what increase in air traffic may be expected but, as with shipping, if first class facilities are provided the natural consequence will be that air traffic will be attracted to Hong Kong. 300 passengers a day within 5 years is a conservative estimate. Without such facilities it is apparent that air operators will seek an alternative port of call and plan their air routes to overfly this Colony. In the coming years of greatly increased air transport Hong Kong will be left an isolated backwater in the Far East served only be feeder lines to some more progressive cent. It is hoped that the consequent loss of trade and prestige will be unacceptable to His Majesty's government.
