Constructed outside the Colony.

The Government cannot allow any survey during construction to be -ide the Colony but, if desired, will undertake to examine and,

* upon plaus showing the structural arrangements and details of marine boilers, machinery, boats, etc., which are to be constructed the Colony and intended to comply with British requirements. The fee for this service will be assessed in each case according to f work involved in the examination.

Surveys outside the Colony,

20. The foregoing fees are for surveys within the limits of the Colony and fude the surveyor's expenses in connection with such surveys. When, on ap- abon being made, the Government decide to allow a survey to be made outside tolony, in addition to the usual survey fee and the Surveyor's travelling spen-es, a special fee of $150 will be charged for every 24 hours or part of 21 drs during which the Surveyor is absent from the Colony. This special fee will 'de a subsistence allowance for the Surveyor which will be assessed and paid the Giovernment according to the circumstances of the case.

All fees and a deposit to cover the additional charges must be paid in advance the applicants and an undertaking given for the payinent of any balance of fees

expenses connected with the service.

Overtime Charges.

21.-(a) Whenever Surveyors are called upon to perform services out of al hours application should be made to the Principal Surveyor of Ships and andertaking given to jay the overtime charges.

(6) Othicial hours are to be regarded as from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays 10 A. to 1 p.m. and overtime is charged according to the following scale:--

On week days:-

from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.in. from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m, and ú p.m. to 8 p.m. before G a.m. and after 8 p,m,

on Sundays and holidays...

(c) A service occupying less than an hour will be charged for us one hour ording to the scale. For services exceeding one hour, a quarter fee will be ared for every quarter or part quarter of an hour, according to the scale, but Lar a service excooding ten hours in any one case the charge will be limited] to that for ten hours. These charges cover the services of all the Surveyors engaged In theo

survey, except if the services of an Engineer Surveyor in addition to those au Emigration Officer are required before an emigrant ship can be cleared, survey made by the Engineer Surveyor will be regarded as a separate one, wl overtime charges will be made in respect of both officers.

(d) If, from unforesecu circumstances, the duty cannot be commenced at the bor stated on the form of application, or cannot be completed without interrup- , the time during which the Surveyors are kept waiting is to be charged for a ball the usual overtime rate subject to the limit of ten hours for the whole service

Time occupied in travelling between the shore and the ship is to be kharged for at half the usual overtime rate.

() As the tests of illumination of ship's sides, searchlights for ship's lifeboats visibility of navigation lights can only be made satisfactorily after durk, herefore, necessarily out of office hours, only one-half the usual overtime rate is to lie charged for such tests.
