Hong Kong Prison :—1598 ceils iucloding 6 con- demned cell:. 6 observation rells, 2 padded colla→ owing to non-delivery of locks 339 cells are unoccupied. Victoria Ginol:- 633 cells on the separate system, 9 association rells, I condemned cell and 1 padded coll, Lai Chi Kok:- 9 association falls-with accom- monation for a total of 642 prisoners.

Lai Chi Kok:-There are 602 cubic feet to ench prisoner and each one has 54 sq, feet of window cap- able of being opened.

Female Prison, 394 cubic feet to each prisoner.

In classification their sentences and nationality are taken into consideration: they are classified as follows,

viz.:-

Females,

Europeans, Indians, and Chinese.

Convicted adult prisoners.

Debtors.

Misdemeanants.

On rentand and owaiting trial.

All the prisoners of the above classes are separated at night, and in the yards, so far as possible,

There is uo tread-mill. Shot-drill, crank-labour, and carrying stone are no longer practised.

The hours of labour throughout the year are from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., one hour being allowed for the mid- day meal.

No work is usually performed on Saturday after- noons, Sundays, Xmas Day, Good Friday & Chinese New Year Day,

Tailoring, shoe-making, painting, photography, weaving, uet-umking, carpentering, grass and coir mat making, rattan work, type casting, printing, book-binding, tinsmithing, washing, cleaning, garden- ing, and incidental repairs to the Prison buildings.
