CHEMICALS AND DRUGS.
Imports totalled $3.7 millions as compared with $6.7 millions, and exports $3.3 millions as compared with $3.8 millions.
Imports of Acids (all kinds) declined from 36.786 pieuls ($386,983) to 8,039 piculs ($102,072), and exports from 11,308 piculs ($145,209) to 2,497 piculs ($47,452).
Imports of Insecticides increased from a value of $113,000 to $182,000, the Japanese share advancing from $93,000 to $163,000,
Imports of Pharmaceutical Products fell slightly from $1.9 to $1.8 millions, whilst exports increased from $782,000 to $866,000.
CHINESE MEDICINES.
Imports totalled $16.8 millions as compared with $17.9 millions, and exports $11.8 millions as com pared with $12.2 millions: unenumerated items accounted for $11.0 millions of the imports, and $9.9 millions of the exports.
Ginseng imports increased from $3.5 to $4.0 millions; U.S.A. accounting for $2.9 millions as compared with $2.3 millions.
DYEING AND TANNING MATERIALS.
Imports totalled $3.7 millions as compared with $4.4 millions, and exports $3.2 millions as compared with $3.9 millions.
Imports of Aniline Dyes (not including Indigo) increased from $1.9 to $2.1 millions, and exports from $1.1 to $1.2 millions, Germany's share of the imports showing a slight decline.
Artificial Indigo imports fell from 7,230 piculs ($1.1 million) to 4,441 piculs ($521,000).
FOODSTUFFS AND PROVISIONS.
Imports totalled $126.5 millions as compared with $166.9 millions, and exports $102.2 millions as com- pared with $153.6 millions.
Imports of Beans declined from 700,951 piculs ($4,174,476) to 615,564 piculs ($3,046,157).
Imports of Marine Delicacies, such as Agar Agar, Awabi, Beche de Mer, Conpoy, Cuttle Fish, Prawns and Shark Fins increased from 77,648 piculs ($4,310,508) to 93.448 piculs ($4,855,379).
Fresh Fish imports amounted to 130,774 piculs ($1.6 millions) as compared with 128,763 piculs ($1.7 millions).
Imports of Wheat Flour remained the same at 1.1 million piculs, but values fell from $7.5 millions to $6.6 millions. Imports from North China increased from 2,140 to 54.285 piculs, and Australia from 471,000 to 481,000 piculs.
Imports of Rice amounted to 12.419,637 piculs ($44,368,356), and exports to 9,356,489 piculs ($33,816,342). There was an increased export of White Rice (unbroken) from 3.6 to 4.5 million piculs, but exports of broken White Rice declined from 8.1 to 3.0 million piculs, South China taking only 1.8 million piculs as compared with 7.0 million piculs.
Imports of Game and Poultry, Live amounted to 3.0 million head ($2.4 millions) as compared with 3.2 million head ($3.0 millions), the share of Kwongchow Wan increasing from 208,000 to 315,000 head. Imports of all grades of Sugar amounted to 3,895,386 piculs ($19,179,480) as compared with 3,210,402 piculs ($20,495,005), and exports to 2,774,556 piculs ($17,510,731) as compared with 2,552,425 piculs ($19,544,948). Unrefined White imports increased from 1.5 million piculs ($10.4 millions) to 1.7 million piculs ($9.6 millions), whilst exports declined from 1.1 million piculs ($7.7 millions) to 990,000 piculs ($3.4 millions). Exports of Refined White increased from 908,000 picula ($8.8 millions) to 1.3 million piculs ($9.6 millions), British Malaya taking 254,000 as compared with 89,000 piculs.
Imports of Fruits increased from 525,000 piculs ($3.9 millions) to 603,000 piculs ($4.2 millions), the share of Australia advancing from 4,709 to 12,734 piculs, Jupan from 548 to 4,878 piculs and U.S.A. from 38,901 to 50,382 piculs.
The value of Eggs imported fell from $2.7 to $2.4 millions, Condensed Milk from $3.2 to $2.5 millions and Dried Milk from $642,000 to $537,000. Imports of ('ondensed Milk from Holland increased from $1.8 to $2.3 millions, mainly at the expense of Switzerland and Australia.
Both imports and exports of Tea declined slightly, imports totalling $3.1 millions and exports $2.9 millions. Increased imports were recorded from Ceylon, Netherlands East Indies, Siam and U.S.A. Im- ports from China fell slightly. Exports to Malaya practically doubled.
Exports of Fresh Milk increased from $15,000 to $23,000.
