XXI. What are shortly the rules as to diet ?
Answers.
With the exception of debtors and first-class misde- menuants and prisoners on remand or committed for trial, all prisoners are placed ou penul diet of bread (or rice) and water on two days of each week (Saturday and Sunday) for the first six months of their imprison-
ment.
At other times, except when under p:oishment for Prison offences, the diet of each prisoner is as follows :- DIETARY FOR EUROPEAN PRISONERS.

These measures are for mucooked provisions, except in the case of mado up articles of diet; and meat means bonel meat.
Sour.-Each pint to contain 4 oz. meat without bone, 1 oz. onious, 1 oz. barley, 4 oz, greens, yams, sweet potatoes or taro, with popper and salt. GRUEL-Each pint to contain 2 oz. outmeal, 1 oz.
molasses, and sufficient salt.
Cocoa. Each piut to contain 4 oz, flake cocoa or
nibs, 1 oz. molasses or sugar.
SUET PUDDING.-To every pound 14 oz. snet, 6§ oz.
flour, 8 oz. water.
CURRY STUFF.—Chillies 3 drz., pepper 14 drs., tur- meric † dr., coriander sced † dr., cummin seed 4 dr., and oil † oz.
TEA.-Each pint to contain oz. ten, ‡ oz, sugar.
