Convicts. Supply of stores made under Requisitions Nos. 6 and 12 amounting to £13 17s 8d, a small sum, accounted for in consequence of the services performed by the Convicts themselves within the Gaol.

The labour performed by the town during the year has consisted of the ordinary description, but in the early part of that period it was not so satisfactory as it ought to have been, in consequence of a change effected in their guard over them, and the want of an overseer to direct their operations. In addition to this, a fewer number of men placed at the disposal of the Department than usual, and these two particulars combined prevented the execution of a variety of works required.
The services however actually undertaken consisted in the employment of 11,626 men in scavenging under special orders of the Police, performing under the
