Mr Bowden is attentive to his duties and displays a great degree of zeal in everything entrusted to his care; this attention has been greatly devoted to the Convicts who under his charge have executed satisfactory work than they performed before, and I could not wish to see them in a more efficient state of discipline or execute more work for the time they are daily employed; a specification of their work has been given in Report upon Roads.

The difficulties of supervision and guard of the Convicts has been much more effective than hitherto; the grand obstacle having been increased; and as those who were neglectful before have been punished; they have become vigilant, and since the attempt at escape on the 24th September, in which two men were shot and one wounded, the convicts have become more enable and better under command. I have also to Report the death of three of these Convicts by the fall of earth and stones during work.

The overseer Antonio Matheus, although a sailor, has given satisfaction and attention at all times to the orders given for their work.
