He was a zealous and useful public servant, where death on the 21st December by fever was caused by exposure to the sun while surveying the line of road from Strachan's Cage... He was an excellent architect, Draughtsman, and an intelligent and useful person of considerable promise.
I may here remark upon the difficulties I have experienced in executing work at such a distance from... as Surveys at Victoria, as but little or no shelter is obtainable during the heat of the day, and cold in winter...
