The expenditure on these and sundry repairs, etc., has amounted to $4,318.10.92.

Considerable time and attention have necessarily been given to the Drainage of the Colony both above and below ground; latterly these latter works have been obliged to be executed without the benefit of constant supervision; this has not, however, been of much consequence, for works of the kind cannot well be scamped or ill-built as bad workmanship is always apparent.

The above several Works may be imagined to have given considerable labour to me, particularly from the distance at which some of the works in question were situated. At the Aberdeen Police Station in particular, and also upon the Tylam and Stanley roads, our Officers were very sickly, this perhaps may be attributed to their careless habits and unnecessary exposure. I have to record the death of two of them, Cooper and Kelly.
