We ought previously to observe, that no regular returns are made, and that our whole knowledge of it is derived from the statements voluntarily made by the Captains and Owners of the Vessels who visit this port.
There are about 60 large barge-boats which arrive monthly from Banten, Revan-que, Tring-huvan, Nan tow, Keang mun, Cheeing-cheur, and other places, bringing every description of supplies for this Colony, and taking away small quantities, Congelette and other manufactures. Although this is apparently a very considerable commerce, still its continuance and steady returns render it of great importance to small dealers.
This is carried on from Hae-hong, Kivei-shen, and Tae-choo; by small junks mostly manned by the Hakhahs. They sell every month about 20,000 & 30,000 piculs to the merchants here.
