(2) In every omnibus--
(a) the tread of each step shall be not less than
aine inches deep; and
(b) risers shall be not more than eleven inches
in height.".
19. Regulation 58 of the principal regulations is revoked and replaced by the following-
"Number and position of entrances and exits.
58. (1) On a single-decked omnibus and on the lower deck of every double-decked omnibus, either-- (a) the deck of the vehicle shall communicate with the rear platform by means of a doorless opening and the exit from the platform to the near side of the vehicle shall be con- tinuous with the exit to the rear of the vehicle; or
(b) there shall be not less than two exits (onc of which may be an emergency exit) which shall not both be situated on the same side of the vehick.
(2) On a light bus there shall be either- (a) not less than two exits (one of which may
be an emergency exit) which shall-
() not both be situated on the same side
of the vehicle; and
(ii) be situated to the rear of the driver's seal: or
(8) one exit in the back of the vehicle.
(3) If there is access to the upper deck of an omnibus by means of an enclosed staircase, ao emer- gency exit shall be provided on the upper deck which-----
(a) need not be provided with a staircase; and (6) shall not be on the near side of the omni-
bus.".
20. The principal regulations are amended by adding, after regulation 59, the following new regulation-
"Width of entrances on light buses.
59A. (1) Every entrance and every exit of a light bus shall, subject to paragraph (2), be not less than twenty-one inches wide.
(2) Notwithstanding paragraph (1), the Commis- sioner may permit in writing the use of a light bus the entrances or exits of which are less than twenty-one inches wide.".

21. Regulation 60 of the principal regulations is amended (a) in paragraph (1) by inserting after "omnibus"" the
following-
"and of light bus":
(b) in paragraph (3) by inserting after "omnibus" the
following-
"or light bus";
(c) in paragraph (4) by inserting after "omnibus" the
following-
"or light bus":
(d) in paragraph (5) by inserting after "omnibus" the
following-
"or light bus".
22. Regulation 61 of the principal regulations is amended- (a) by deleting paragraph (1) and substituting the following-
"(1) The means of operation of all emergency exits of
(a) an omnibus; and
(b) a light bus.
shall be clearly indicated in English and in Chinese characters.":
(b) in paragraph (2) by deleting sub-paragraph (c) and sub-
stituting the following-

be casily accessible to the passengers; and (✔) be connected with any gangway by a passage which shall not be of less dimensions than those prescribed in paragraph (1) of regulation 63 for a gangway, and shall be so designed that a ver- tical line projected upwards at any point from the centre line of the passage at floor level is laterally not less than six inches from any part of the vehicle in the case of-
(i) an omnibus to a height of four feet six inches; and
(i) a light bus to a height of four feet."; (c) in paragraph (3) by inserting after "upper deck" the
following
"of an omnibus":
(d) by inserting after paragraph (3) the following new
paragraph (4)—
"(4) For the purposes of sub-paragraph (d) of paragraph (2) a seat on the upper deck of an omnibus
