(2) No person shall wilfully alter, damage, obstruct otherwise impair any such means of escape, or fire-fighting appliance.

27. No registtable workplace shall be situated in any building any part of which is licensed for the storage of any dangerous goods as defined in the Dangerous Goods Ordinance, 1873, unless the dangerous goods are housed in a structure effectively cu off, to the satisfaction of the Commissioner and the Chief Officer of the Fire Brigade, by a structure of fire-resisting material from direct communication with the registrable work- place.

28. (1) The Commissioner may by notice in writing. safety pre- require.... cautions

etc.

(2) that any building or part thereof in a registrable work- place being a building the cubic content of which is greater than two hundred and fifty thousand cubic feet shall be divided by walls or floors of fire-resisting material into compartments none of which shall exceed two hundred and fifty thousand cubic feet in capacity, to the satisfaction of the building authority;

(b) that any opening in a dividing wall or floor required under sub-paragraph (a) shall be fitted with doors of fire-resisting material constructed to the satisfaction of the building authority ;

(c) that-

(i) any building exceeding sixty feet in height; and (ii) any building in which more than twenty persons are employed,

which is or forms part of a registrable workplace shail be provided with such means of escape therefrom in case of fire as may be specified in the notice:

(d) that in any registrable workplace such precautions against fire shall be taken and fire-fighting appliances provided as may be specified in the notice;

(e) that in any registrable workplace illuminated notices bearing the words "FIRE EXIT" in English and Chinese shall be provided and maintained in good condition at any exit from the workplace; and

that in any tenement factory-

() an enclosed concrete stairway with self-closing doors of fire-resisting material on each landing shall be provided;

(ii) any stairway required under this sub-paragraph shall be carried in concrete to the top floor of the building and continued either in concrete or in iron to the roof; and

(iii) a protected route to neighbouring buildings, or such other means of escape in case of fire as may be specified in the notice shall be provided.

(2) Every norice given under this regulation shall specify in detail the requirements of the Commissioner, including the time within which the requirements are to be complied with.

(3) The proprietor of the registrable workplace concerned shall, on receipt of any such notice, execute and do all such works and things as may be necessary in order to comply with every requirement so specified, including the submission of plans to the building authority,

29. Every registrable workplace shall be kept in a clean state, Clean- and free from effluvia arising from any drain, sanitary convenience liness. or nuisance, and, without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing provisions-

(a) accumulations of dirt and refuse shall be removed daily by a suitable method from the Aoor and benches of workrooms and from the staircases and pussages;

(0) the floor of every workromm shall be cleaned at least once in every week by washing or, if it is effective and suitable, by sweeping or other method; and

(c) all inside walls and partitions, and all ceilings or tops af rooms shall be limewashed at least once in every year or, if they have been oil-painted or varnished, they shall be washed with hot water and soap at least once in every period of fourteen months,
