Urban Council Elections (Procedure) RegULATIONS, 1955.

In exercise of the powers conferred by subsection (1) of section 30 of the Urban Council Ordinance, 1955, the Governor in Council has made the following regulations—

1. These regulations may be cited as the Urban Council Elections (Procedure) Regulations, 1955-

PROVISIONS RELATING TO THE STAGES OF AN ELECTION

PRECEDING A POLL.

Notice of election.

2. On a date or dates not before the 1st day of February and not after the 10th day of February the returning officer shall cause to be published in the Gazette a notice of annual election in accordance with Form 1 of the Appendix containing the following particulars-

(a) notice of vacancy for two elected members on the next

following 1st day of April,

(b) that nominations for the said vacancies will be received by him between the hours of 9 a.m. and i pom, and between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on any day not being a general holiday or a Saturday at an address in the Colony stipulated in such notice on or before the next following 21st day of February provided that in any year in which the 21st day of February is a general holiday by virtue of the Holidays Ordinance such notice shall stipulate that nominations will be received not later than the day following such day,

(c) that in the event of more than two nominations being received by him in accordance with paragraph (b) an election will be held on a date specified in such notice, not being a date before the 2nd day of March or after the 9th day of March.

(«) notice of vacancy or vacancies for an elected member, (b) that nominations for the said vacancies will be received by him between the hours of 9 am, and 1 p.m. and between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m, on any day not being a general holiday or a Saturday at an address in the Colony stipulated in such notice on or before the fourteenth day after date of publication in the Casette of such notice of extraordinary election,

(e) that in the event of more nominations being received by him in accordance with paragraph (b) than the number of vacancies duly declared an election will be held on a date specified in such notice, such date being not less than fourteen days and not more than twenty-one days after the last day for receipt of nominations.

4. (1) Each candidate shall be nominated by a separate Form of nomination paper in accordance with Form 4 of the Appendix Form 1. delivered by the candidate himself or by his proposer or seconder at the place appointed for that purpose.
