(3) Section 19 is repealed and replaced by the

following-

"19. (1) Where a term of imprison- ment is imposed by the Supreme Court in respect of the non-payment of any sum of money, other than a sum of money which is ordered to be paid to any person aggrieved by way of compensation or amends for any injury, damage, or loss to his person or property, then, on pay- ment to the Commissioner of Prisons, or to such person as he may authorize, of any sum in part satisfaction of the sum so adjudged to be paid and of any charges for which the prisoner is liable, the term of imprisonment shall be reduced by a number of days bearing as nearly as possible the same proportion to the total number of days for which the prisoner has been sentenced as the sum so paid bears to the aggregate sum for which he is so liable: Provided that, in reckoning the number of days by which any term would be reduced under this section, the first day of imprisonment shall not be taken into account, and that, in reckoning the sum which will secure the reduction of a term of imprisonment, fractions of a cent shall be omitted.

(2) Where the term of imprison- ment is imposed by a magistrate, section 31 of the Magistrates Ordinance, 1933, shall apply and provisions may be made by rules under section 127 of the Magistrates Ordinance, 1932, as to the application of the sums paid under such section and the conditions under which such payments may be made and the release of the prisoner effected."

(1) The Ordinance is amended by the deletion wherever it appears (except in paragraph (m) of subsection (1) of section a) of the word "Superintendent" and the substitution therefor of the following--

**Director".

(2) Section 2 is amended by the deletion of para- graph (m) of subsection (1) and the substitution therefor of the following-

"(m) "Director" means the Director of Medical and Health Services or such person or persons as may be appointed by him in writing to carry out or exercise all or any of the duties or powers under this Ordinance."

(2A) Section 2 is further amended by the addition after paragraph (p) of subsection (1) of the following

"(g) "Government Chemist" means the person so appointed by the Governor and shall include such other person as the Director shall appoint in writing to carry out the duties of Government Chemist under this Ordinance."*

(2B) Section 16. (2B) Section 16 is amended by the deletion of the word "Superintendent" where it appears therein and the substitution therefor of the following-

(a) by the deletion in the first line of sub- paragraph (1) of paragraph 9 of Form B of the words "Imports and Exports Department" and the substitution therefor of the following-
