STORES DEPARTMENT.
REPORT OF THE CONTROLLER OF STORES FOR THE YEAR 1938.
A separate department for dealing with stores was brought into operation during the year, its function being the purchase of departments' requirements, storage of unallocated stores, maintaining at a suitable level the reserve of stores in general use, the control, purchase, storage and selling of sand under the Sand Monopoly, the manufacture and maintenance of Government furniture.
The stores requirements of all Government departments and undertakings were dealt with, except coal and the Kowloon and Canton Railway stores (other than oils) which were arranged for by the Harbour Master and Manager of the Railway respectively.
(A) GENERAL STORES.
1. Staff. Under the Controller of Stores the European staff on general stores work was comprised of 5 European officers, 47 monthly paid non-Europeans and 14 daily paid non-Europeans.
