tion of the old market, a contract was commenced on 1st December for the piling of the foundations by The Vibro Piling Co., Ltd., and though difficulties were caused by the foundations of the old building, fairly good progress was made by the end of the year. Working drawings, Specification and Bills of Quantities for the superstructure were completed to enable tenders to be called for early in 1938.

Three sewer and storm water drain connections were given to the new Wholesale Market at Kennedy Town, and necessary alterations were made to the existing sewer in Queen Victoria Street adjoining.

237. Wireless Telegraph Station:- Sketch plans were prepared for a building to be erected at Hung Hom to provide accommodation for electrical equipment, transmitting hall, office, battery rooms and a studio. A contract for the piling was let to The Hong Kong Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd., on 11th June and this was completed on 10th July at a cost of $4,190.25. A contract for the building was let to Messrs. Tak Hing & Co., on 7th July and the work was satisfactorily completed on 13th December.

AIRPORT AND SEAPLANE SLIPWAY, ETC.

238. Construction of Fuel and Oil Store:- This work was referred to in paragraph 226 of last year's Report. The only expenditure under this head was on account of the payment of retention money amounting to $1,000 which became due to the Contractor on expiration of the maintenance period of six months.

239. Formation of 'Flight Gap' North of Sai Kung Road: This work was referred to in paragraph 227 of last year's Report. All construction was completed and the area was laid with black soil and rolled.

240. Major Repairs to Nullahs:- The contract for this work was awarded to Messrs. Sang Lee & Co. on the 16th August. Good progress was made until the typhoon of September 2nd when the contractor's staging and beam shuttering was swept out to sea. The contractor, however, completed the repairs on the 18th December. An extension of the contract was granted due to the delay occasioned by the typhoon,
