199. Conversion of "C" Block at Government Civil Hospital as an Out-patients Department:-Sketch plans were prepared for alterations to "C" Block and the work, which consisted of the provision of an Out-patients Department, Infant Welfare Centre, and Quarters for Single Chinese Medical Officers, was completed in October. The formation of a motor access road which was included in the original scheme was postponed. Fifty-three electric lights, twenty light and power sockets, and ten ceiling fans were installed.

200. Widening of Castle Peak Road from Shing Mun Approach Road to Tsun Wan Village:-This work was completed by the end of the year.

201. Widening and surfacing to a width of twenty feet the existing Police Patrol Path from Sheung Shui to Muk Fu Ferry: A contract was awarded to Messrs. Sang Lee & Co. on 8th December. Satisfactory progress was made by the end of the year. The construction of a temporary wooden bridge across the Shum Chun River was completed and the road opened for one-way traffic on 31st December. The completion of this work linked up the road systems of Kwongtung and Hong Kong.

202. Construction of a Bridge on Borrett Road:-This bridge carries Borrett Road over Bowen Road and provides the main access to the Bowen Road Military Hospital. At the suggestion of this Department the span of the bridge was made sufficiently large to permit a possible future widening of Bowen Road and this expenditure represents the cost of work necessitated by the large span.

203. Construction of Seawalls and Reinstatement of Typhoon Damages at Lai Chi Kok:-A contract for the reconstruction of the seawall at Lai Chi Kok was awarded to Messrs. Ching Hing Construction Co. and work was commenced on the 1st October. By the end of the year, 1,200 feet of the foundation mound was cleared and brought to approved levels; 963 feet of the cement concrete footing course was laid and 300 feet of the sea wall was built to a height of approx. 8 feet 6 inches above Ordnance Datum.
