III.-ACCOUNTS.

1.-General.

55. The net operating revenue for the year was $454,733.00, and after making provision for all interest charges the net surplus was $357,257.17. This sum has been applied to the reduction of the accumulated deficits brought forward from previous years. The total accumulated deficits at the end of the year was $7,930,872.50.

56. The Capital Account has been increased during the year by $13,943.55, and now stands at $20,462,339.30.

57. The Chinese Section continued to make monthly cash payments, up to the end of April, in respect of their obligations on the Locomotive Loan Account. This account was fully liquidated on April 30th and the locomotives were handed over on May 1st together with their running spares.

58. The working results for the past five years are as under:

The weighted figures, which are included for comparison, are based on a 35% apportionment of terminal through receipts, which was the British Section's share prior to October 1st, 1934. As a proportion of the operating expenses are dependent on the sterling exchange value of the dollar, the expenditure figures cannot be regarded as truly comparative.
