A contract was let to Messrs. Woo Hing on the 28th August, 1936 for $5,400.46 for the construction of the filter house. This is a two-storey building of reinforced concrete framework and brick panelling, accommodation for an office and for the staff required to attend the plant being provided on the first floor. This contract was satisfactorily completed on 30th November.

A contract was let to Messrs. Kin Lee & Co. on the 6th of February for $12,069.86 for the construction of the service reservoir and this work was satisfactorily completed in July. The reservoir is in two sections, the total capacity being 202,000 gallons. The side and division walls are of mass concrete, and the roof of reinforced concrete beam and slab design carried on reinforced concrete columns. The invert is sloped up near the side walls, thus reducing the depth of the walls and the amount of concrete.

Alterations were carried out in July to the Tytam Gauge Basin, so that water from Tytam or Byewash Reservoirs can be fed back through the pumping mains to Stanley when the pumps are out of action.

The laying of the following mains was completed in July:- 397 feet of 6" spun iron piping to connect the new service reservoir to the existing Stanley Distribution system; 102 feet of 6" wrought iron piping to connect the new pressure filters to the existing pumping mains; 2,804 feet of 5" spun iron piping and 5,150 feet of 5" wrought iron piping between the filters and the new service reservoir; 280 feet of 2" wrought iron piping to connect Rural Building Lot No. 147 to the new supply main and the old 3" wrought iron supply main and cast iron tank were removed.

Unfiltered water was supplied to Stanley under the new scheme from 16th July till the end of the year, and it is anticipated that filtered water will be available early in 1937. Eleven electric lights were installed at Tytam Pumping Station.

144. Extension of Reclamation at North Point :- This work was referred to in paragraph 131 of last year's Report. The following work was carried out under the previous year's contract:- A berm composed of one ton stones was formed for a length of 897 feet, and eighty sea wall foundation blocks were set, this made a total of 225 blocks set since the commencement of the contract.
