53. Roads and Bridges in City (Maintenance and Improvements):-The surfaces of approximately seventy-one miles of roads were generally maintained in a satisfactory manner.
The following figures show the extent of the operations carried out at the Government Quarry, Tsat Tze Mui, during the year-A total quantity of 16,507 cubic yards of various grades of stones were passed through crushers, of which 8,535 cubic yards were made into tar macadam, 547 cubic yards into sand carpeting and 7,425 cubic yards were delivered to various works as the material came from crushers. 1,783 granolithic paving slabs were provided for use on footways; forty-six reinforced concrete standards for railings and four wooden notice boards were made.
The following are particulars of the additional areas laid with improved surfacing during the year:-

During a twelve hour period (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.) the following results were obtained and these are shown compared with the 1935 figures.
