AIRPORT & SEAPLANE SLIPWAY, ETC.

216. Raising and Regrading Western Portion of Aerodrome: This work was referred to in paragraph 239 (c) of last year's Report. A total quantity of 103,521.4 cubic yards of material was deposited and graded to correct levels. This completed the work.

217. Piling and Concrete Foundations for Hangar: This work was referred to in paragraph 239 (e) of last year's Report. A total number of 209 piles were formed to complete the work.

218. Erection of Hangar for Civil Aviation: A contract for the erection of the Hangar and for the construction of the annexes was let to Messrs. Sang Lee and Co. Work was commenced on 27th March and at the end of the year construction was nearing completion. A quantity of 650 tons of construction steel were erected, approximately 7,968 square yards of Robertsons V.B. sheeting were fixed while the office and workshop Annexes together with the Police Hut were finished. The walls, floors and roof of the administration annexe were completed. Electrical installations for Civil Hangar, Police Hut, etc., were in hand.


219. Formation of Flight Gap North of Sai Kung Road: In connection with this work it was necessary to construct a service track to transport filling material, the site of such track being across private land. It was resolved to resume certain lots in Survey District I.

The formation work comprises the depositing of approximately 230,000 cubic yards of material to raise the level of an area of approximately seventeen acres together with the extension of two nullahs and the reconstruction of a portion of Sai Kung Road. A contract was let to Messrs. Kwan On and work was commenced on 21st August. At the end of the year, about one half of the nullah work was completed and the quantity of material deposited amounted to approximately 39,000 cubic yards.

220. Water Supply: 920 feet of 6" cast iron main were laid for fire service and general supply in the grounds of the Civil Airport.

AIR PORT WIRELESS TELEGRAPH STATION.

221. Installation was completed, at Hung Hom, of Type TA.1 (Medium wave) and Type S.8A (Short wave) Transmitters. All materials for the D.F. Receiver, S/W Receiver, Automatic Control apparatus and Receiving Aerials have arrived and their installation was awaiting the completion of the Aerodrome Control Station.
