118: Water Works: (a) Miscellaneous: The following works were carried out:- 225 feet of 6" cast iron piping were laid in Tai Ping Shan Street; 225 feet of 6" cast iron piping were laid in Ice House Street; 224 feet of 6" cast iron piping were laid in Boat Street; 432 feet of 4" cast-iron piping were laid in Smithes field; 361 feet of 4" cast iron piping were laid in Duddell Street; seventy-five feet of 4" wrought iron piping were laid in Duddell Street; 2,104 feet of 4" wrought iron piping were laid in Repulse Bay Pipeline; and 330 feet of 2" wrought iron piping were laid in Mount Cameron Road. A concrete measuring board was constructed in Pokfulam Reservoir. A Negretti-Zambra self-recording rain gauge was obtained through the Crown Agents and fixed in Tytam Tuk Reservoir Valve Tower. One telephone and five-line switchboard were installed at Elliott Filter Beds.

(b) Meters: 431 meters were issued from Store and charged to this head during the year.

114. Port Works:- Expenditure under this head was for the supervision of sand collecting junks, fixing of mooring rings, cement testing and sundry surveys.

115. New 100-foot Road between Causeway Bay and Quarry Bay: This road is now named King's Road. A contract for the work of driving through a cutting to the north-east of Causeway Bay was let in October 1934 to Messrs. Sang Lee & Co. but owing to certain resumptions not being completed the contractor was not ordered to commence work until December. Good progress was made and about 58,000 cubic yards of soft material and 70,000 cubic yards of rock were removed. This represented approximately 90% of the total excavation under this contract.
The section of the road between North Point House and Taikoo Sugar Refinery was completed and opened for traffic during October, 1935.
New sewers and storm water drains were constructed to a length of 6,994 feet and varying from 84" to 6", together with thirty-seven gully connections; nullah decking was reconditioned to a length of thirty-six feet and parapet walling constructed for twelve lineal feet.
576 feet of 12", 774 feet of 10", 3,048 feet of 8" and 338 feet of 6" cast iron water mains were laid.
