Repairs due to white ant damage were carried out at the following buildings:- Taipo clerks quarters, Taipo Police Station, Taipo island quarters, Taipo police bungalow, Taipo Dispensary, Sha Tau Kok Police Station, Sheung Shui Police Station, Sai Kung Police Station and Sham Tseng Dispensary.

The electrical installations were maintained in good order. 209 points in twelve buildings were tested and three inventories of electrical fittings issued.

92. Improvements to Buildings:- The principal improvements carried out were:- Un Long Post Office-alterations, new counter, etc., Lok Ma Chau Police Station-mosquito proofing to quarters, Taipo Police Station-mosquito proofing to quarters, Tai O Police Station-alterations to battery room, Taipo Dispensary-new hot water system and various improvements, Fanling Lodge-alterations to verandah, servants quarters, etc., Sheung Shui Police Station-two concrete defence turrets, and brick and concrete shed in yard of Indian's Quarters, Au Tau Police Station-two concrete defence turrets, Taipo Botanical & Forestry Quarters-installed bostwick gates and grills, Cheung Chau Police Station-guards to all doors and yard arm to mast.

Electrical improvements and additions were carried out at Taipo, Sheung Shui, Sha Tau Kok and Au Tau Police Stations, Un Long and Taipo Post Offices, District Officer/North Office and Taipo Dispensary. Alarm bell switches were installed inside the main door of Sheung Shui Police Station.

93. Maintenance of Lighthouses:- All Lighthouses were maintained in a good state of repair. Painting, colourwashing and repairs were carried out in accordance with the recurring programme to all Lighthouses and Aga Lights. Major repairs were the new jib and safety stay to large derrick at Gap Rock Lighthouse.

Defective circuits were rewired, electric fog signal apparatus installed and underground cable renewed at Waglan. A lightning conductor at Gap Rock was repaired.

Expenditure $7,480.29

94. Roads and Bridges (Maintenance and Improvements):- The surface of approximately eighty miles of roads was generally maintained in a satisfactory manner.
