Sand and silt were removed from nullahs at Gascoigne Road, King's Park, Waterloo Road, Argyle Street and Mongkok nullah and from storm water culvert opposite K.I.L. 2,148 and catchpits at Waterloo Road-Argyle Street junction at Hung Hom and at Lo Lung Hang etc.

75. Maintenance of Water Works, Kowloon:-The year opened with a constant supply which was maintained until 6th February when it was considered advisable to restrict the supply to ten hours per day (6 a.m.-11 a.m. and 4 p.m.-9 p.m.) With the exception of five days during the Silver Jubilee Celebrations (5th-9th May) when a full supply was given, these hours were maintained until 22nd May, when it was found necessary further to restrict the supply to six hours per day (6-9 a.m. and 4.30-7.30 p.m.) On 18th June a constant supply was given and was maintained until 31st October. From 1st November to 31st December a fifteen hours supply was substituted (6 a.m.-9 p.m.) During the year therefore a constant supply was maintained on 177 days as compared with 365 days in 1934.

Water was impounded in the new Jubilee Reservoir for the first time, the diversion tunnel being closed on 1st September. A maximum effective storage of 142.72 million gallons was obtained on 27th October when the T.W.L. was 125.41 feet below the permanent overflow level.

Impounding in the Jubilee Reservoir made it necessary permanently to remove the overflow recording apparatus at the upper intake of the Shing Mun River. This was effected on 31st August and no record of any flood discharge after that date is available. The total yield of the river for the period 1st January to 31st August inclusive, as measured by the V. Gauge and overflow recorder, was 3,296.26 million gallons as compared with 3,576.97 million gallons for the same period of last year.

The pipe from the Needle Hill Stream Intake was carried away on 15th June and was not replaced. 30.56 million gallons were obtained from this source up to the above date as compared with 26.96 million gallons for the same period of last year.

The pumps below Pineapple Pass worked on 142 days up till 28th May when the pump house was demolished and the pumps removed. During the above period they delivered 33.31 million gallons equivalent to 235,000 gallons per working day.
