GENERAL WORKS.
170. Roads:- Work completed under this head included the surfacing, kerbing and channelling of new roads, and where required to existing roads. Footpaths were paved with granolithic paving or slabs and the necessary improvements made in front of new buildings erected during the year.

171. Drainage :-(a) Training Nullahs.- A nullah to the south-east of So Uk Village, Cheung Sha Wan was constructed with walling eight courses high for a length of 336 feet. Invert was laid in Lai Chi Kok nullah for a length of 150 feet full width, and 202 feet half width. The open earth cut at the base of the foothill at Lai Chi Kok was commenced and a length of 500 feet excavated.

(b) Miscellaneous Drainage Works.- New sewers and storm water drains were constructed to a length of 7,138 feet, varying in diameter from 84" to 6". A masonry catchpit, with lengths of check walling and channelling was constructed at the quarry on the new Taipo Road in line with Kiu Kiang Street. Wing Lung Street sewer was extended on built-up foundation to discharge below low water mark. 816 feet of trenching in earth for surface drainage was carried out in the area east of Taipo Road and north of Boundary Street. The number of drain connections made was 144. Many new gullies were constructed and connected to the existing storm water drainage system.

172. Miscellaneous- A sentry box was provided for Lai Chi Kok Prison. The renewal of wiring at Shamshuipo Police Station for lights, fans and power was put in hand.

173. Water Works:- Miscellaneous.- The following works were carried out under this head. 380 feet of 6" cast iron main were laid in Wong Chuk Street from Ki Lung Street to Lai Chi Kok Road, 65 feet of 6" cast iron main were laid in Boundary Street west of Taipo Road, 210 feet of 6" cast iron main were laid in Po Kong Road near Carpenter Road, 120 feet of 6" cast iron main were laid in Nga Tsin Loong Road, 200 feet of 6" cast iron main were laid in the new street at 330 Castle Peak Road, a V gauge was fixed in a small dam constructed across the Lai Chi Kok Stream above the gaol, for the purpose of collecting information regarding the dry weather flow.

174. Port Works:- Minor expenditure under this head was incurred for borings taken in the vicinity of Kweilin Street, Shamshuipo.
