165. New Service Reservoir, Yaumati Hill:-This work was referred to in paragraph 175 of last year's Report. The reservoir was completed and subjected to test early in March, and was brought into use during that month. The reservoir which is 240 feet in length and 210 feet in width, has an average effective depth of 18' 3". Its maximum capacity is 5.43 million gallons and its top water level is 215 A.O.D. A gravity section division wall of an average height of 13′ 3′′ has been provided to facilitate cleaning and repairs. 71,000 cubic yards of soft material and 15,450 cubic yards of rock were excavated and deposited in the vicinity of the reservoir. A reinforced concrete cantilever retaining wall was constructed behind K.I.L. 630 to retain the western embankment.
With the exception of the south-west wall all the main walls of the reservoir are of gravity section. Approximately 200 reinforced concrete piles of a maximum length of sixteen feet were driven to support these walls. The reservoir invert is of cement concrete 9" in thickness, laid in slabs approximately fifteen feet square and separated by bitumen expansion joints. The reinforced concrete roof, which is of the beam and slab type, is carried on 193 reinforced concrete piers spaced fifteen feet apart.
The reservoir is supplied from the 24" diameter trunk main in Nathan Road by an 18" diameter steel main, which dis- charges into a gauge basin at the reservoir. An automatic re- corder shewing the delivery into the reservoir and two auto- matic depth recorders have been installed in the control house. The reservoir is linked to the Kowloon distribution system by an 18" diameter cast iron main 1,900 feet in length which runs through King's Park to Gascoigne Road.
