PUBLIC WORKS RECURRENT.
The following is a summary of works carried out under this vote:
HONG KONG.
46. Maintenance of Buildings:-Government buildings were kept in a good state of repair. Painting, colourwashing and repairs in accordance with the recurring programme were carried out to ninety-nine buildings. Major repairs included the following:--Central Police Station-repaired lavatory doors and relaid tiles in corridors, Western Market-renewed timber stalls in concrete and repairs to Bostwick gates. Queen's College-repaired laboratory shelves, Colonial Secretary's Office--temporary matshed roof, Government House-painting and repairs, Victoria Gaol-reconstructed laundry chimney and renewed corrugated iron in "E" Hall, Central Police Station-repaired roof and erected new concrete bridge, Law Courts-Relaid and renewed tiles in corridors, 275 The Peak-repaired sashes and frames, 405 The Peak-repaired tennis court netting, Peak School-repaired fences, Mountain Lodge-removed dado panelling and renewed in plaster, Nos. 158 and 159 The Peak-repaired approach paths, Victoria Hospital-cement concrete surfacing to yards, 410 The Peak-repairs and additions to fencing, 463 The Peak-renewed plaster ceilings with fibre board. Aberdeen Market-vegetable and poultry stalls, Cape D'Aguilar-repaired roofs and frames, Colonial Cemetery-renewed roof to Plant House, Leighton Hill Quarters-repaired paths. Wanchai Depot-repaired garage roof, Tsat Tze Mui Quarters-mosquito proofed doors and windows, Mounted Infantry Stables-repaired and altered, Ventris Road Quarters-relayed concrete surfacing. Tsat Tze Mui Police Station-renewed concrete surfacing to compound, Junior Technical School-repaired floor of main hall, Kennedy Town Slaughter House-renewed floor to offal room, Ellis Kadoorie School-resurfaced playground, etc., Tsan Yuk Hospital-repaired windows and jalousies, Kennedy Town Hospital-renewed ceilings and resurfaced approach road. Kennedy Town Crematorium-repaired incinerator, Government Civil Hospital "B" Block-renewed drain to Eastern Street. Kennedy Town Inspectors Bungalow-renewed mosquito proofing.
Repairs due to white ant damage were carried out at the following buildings:-Government House, Queen's College, Central Police Station, Post Office Building, Mountain Lodge, Homestead Flats and Houses, 297 The Peak (Lysholt), Villa Miramere, Stanley Police Station, Superintendent Botanical and Forestry Department Quarters, Shaukiwan Market, Government laundries, Queen's Gardens, Vernacular Middle School, Government Civil Hospital "A" Block, Kennedy Town Hospital, Bacteriological Institute, Government Civil Hospital Staff Quarters.
