55. The use of shower-baths has made it possible to continue Drill, Dancing and Games throughout the hot season.

56. The Spring Festival and the performance at the Prize Distribution were again greatly admired.

57. Peak School. Headmistress, Miss Newsholme. Maximum attendance was 69. Average attendance was 55 (53 last year).

58. The work of this school is uneven, but in the main reaches a high standard.

59. A successful Sports Meeting was held in the grounds of the Chief Justice.

GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS-GAMES.

60. All schools, British and Chinese, boys and girls take a keen and active interest in every kind of school game.

PRIVATE ENGLISH SCHOOLS.

61. Day Schools. During the last three years the number of private day schools remains practically unchanged; there are 48 at the end of the year, exactly the same as in the previous year. Amongst these, three are Roman Catholic Theological Seminaries, two of which are exempted from supervision; four have kindergarten and infant classes only; two are commercial schools, six are girls' schools and the rest are ordinary schools for boys. The maximum enrolment in these schools was 4,540.

62. Night Schools. Of the 75 schools existing at the end of 1933, 21 closed and six disappeared without giving notice; with 24 schools registered during the year, the total at the end of December was 72. The maximum enrolment was 2,162.
