## REPORT BY THE INSPECTORS OF VERNACULAR SCHOOLS.

### GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS.

Vernacular Middle School—Head Teacher, Mr. Li King Hong, B.A. The maximum enrolment was 252 and the average attendance was 237.

2. Owing to the change of the school year, the Final Examination of the Normal Class was held in July instead of December. Only one out of four students passed—probably the result of two shortened school years. At the Annual Examination, 76% gained promotions in the Middle School Division, and 53% in the Higher Primary.

3. An Old Boys' Association was founded in July, with Mr. Fung Ping Fan as its first President. Mr. Fung has generously presented a set of very useful Chinese books consisting of 2,000 volumes to the school Library.

4. The school continued to do well in Volley-Ball, being runners-up for the Senior Shield for the 5th year in succession. Keener interest is shown in Football and Swimming.

5. Vernacular Normal School for Women.—Headmistress, Miss Chan Yat Hing. The maximum enrolment was 173 and the average attendance was 162. At the Final Examination held in July, fourteen out of seventeen "Final" Students passed.

6. During the Summer Vacation, the 3rd year students ran a Summer Class for poor boys—which was a social service, as well as a useful experience.

7. The Physical Training, given this year by Miss Knill during the absence on leave of Miss Swift, and the keener interest taken by the girls in sports show some beneficial results in the improved health and physique of the students.

8. Taipo Vernacular Normal School.—Head Teacher, Mr. Chan Pun Chiu. The maximum enrolment was 41 and the average attendance was 29. Five out of six students passed their Final Examination.

9. The general work of the school is very satisfactory.

10. Health of the school has been satisfactory, though a few minor cases of malaria occurred.
