238. General. With the completion of Items Q and R, the whole of the first section of the above scheme has now been carried out, the only modifications to the works proposed in Mr. Henderson's Report dated 8.4.24 (Sessional Paper No. 4, 1929) being an increase in the size of the Shek Li Pui Service Reservoir, alterations to the line of the pipe to the Gardens Reservoir and to the level of the latter, and the addition of the Byewash Reservoir. Construction commenced in 1923 and was completed in 1933. The original estimated cost of this section, which did not include the cost of the Byewash Reservoir and administration charges, was $3,500,000. Administration costs have only been charged during the past two years.
