78. Maintenance of Buildings.-Government Buildings were kept in a good state of repair. Painting, colourwashing and repairs in accordance with the recurring programme were carried out to seven buildings. Major repairs included:-Lai Chi Kok Prison-alterations to Hot Water System, Kowloon City Police Station-alterations to Charge Room, Cheung Sha Wan Market renewal of matsheds.

79. Improvements to Buildings. The principal improvements carried out under this head were as follows:-Sham Shui Po Police Station-alterations to Charge Room, Lai Chi Kok Prison-provision of sunshades to Warders' Quarters and alterations to drainage, Kowloon City Police Station-plastering to Offices and Barrack Rooms.

80. Roads and Bridges (Maintenance and Improvements). The surfaces of approximately 83 miles of roads were maintained in a satisfactory condition.
The following are particulars of the additional areas laid with improved surfacing during the year:
