96. The income from rents increased from $8,037.65 to $13,587.41, and incidental revenue was $4,999.02 as compared with $3,622.23 for 1931.

97. Under subhead R.10 Auxiliary Operation Foreign Haulage, the receipts were $1,976.53 more than 1931, as to cope with the heavy traffic by express trains, it was frequently found necessary to attach coaches in excess of the normal number. The haulage of additional coaches being charged for in accordance with the provisions of the Locomotive Agreement.

98. The revenue under subhead R.11 Interchange of Rolling Stock increased from $2,447.93 to $3,647.35. The British Section's preponderance of all classes of rolling stock, particularly of 4-wheeled 15-ton wagons, for which hire is paid when used by the Chinese Section, accounted for this increase.

99. The total Operating Expenses amounted to $962,377.05. The salaries of the Junior Clerical Staff were as usual not provided for in the Railway Estimate of Working Expenses, but grouped with those of other Government Departments under the head of Junior Clerical Service. This item of expenditure is, however, included in the total Operating Expenses as are all Railway expenses whether provided for in the Railway Estimates or otherwise.

100. The disbursements against the estimate of Working Expenses amounted to $792,305.02 (including Running Expenses of Government Motor Cars and Lorries). The salaries of the Junior Clerical Service amounted to $42,317.73, and the portion of Special Expenditure chargeable to Revenue to $20,175.96. Further items amounting to $44,023.96 were included in respect of services rendered and materials supplied by other Government Departments, also payments made by the Railway not provided for in the Railway Estimates but charged to Government votes.

101. The vote for running expenses, including the wages of Drivers, of Government Motor Cars and Lorries at Kowloon attached to the Railway, was included in the Railway Estimates merely as a convenience, but the cost was not included in the final Operating Expenses.
