The Turbines and Pumping Plant at Bowen Road worked satisfactorily during the year and delivered an average daily supply of 117,000 gallons to the High Level District.

All engines, motors, and station buildings have been kept in good order throughout the year. The work of overhauling the valves on the principal mains in the City was continued during the year, 123 being thoroughly repaired.

The quantity of water supplied by meters was as follows:-

This total shows an increase of 224.36 million gallons in the quantity supplied by meters as compared with 1931 and is equivalent to 40.0% of the total consumption during the year.

New services were constructed or old ones altered, improved, repaired, or connected to the mains to the number of 11,086 and ninety supplies were laid on for building purposes.

The number of inspections of services carried out was 12,824. Defective services were found in 164 cases all of which were put in proper repair after usual notices had been served.

32. Maintenance of Village Supplies-Shaukiwan.—From 7th May to 14th June and from 7th November to 31st December the hours of supply through metered services and existing street fountains were restricted as follows on account of water shortage :- 7th May to 10th May, 14 hours (6 A.M.-8 P.M.) 11th May to 3rd June, 7 hours (6-10 A.M. and 4-7 P.M.) 4th June to 11th June, 3 hours (7-8.30 A.M. and 4.30-6 P.M.) 12th June to 14th June, 4 hours (5-7 A.M. and 2.30-4.30 P.M.) 7th November to 31st December, 10 hours (6-11 A.M. and 4-9 P.M.). In addition a special supply was given through temporary street fountains, which were fixed during the water shortage, as follows:- 4th June to 11th June, 11 hours (7 A.M.-6 P.M.) 12th June to 14th June, 12 hours (6.30 A.M.-6.30 P.M.). For the remainder of the year a constant supply was given.
