76. I have referred to Class 4 Examination of the Department in paragraph 47 and the results of the Technical Institute and Normal School Examinations will be found in Chapters IV and V.

77. There were two Matriculation Examinations of the University of London, one in January and one in June.

78. One Intermediate Arts Examination and one Intermediate Science Examination of the University of London were held in July.

79. Two Examinations of the Royal Sanitary Institute were held, one in Sanitary Science and one for Sanitary Inspectors.

80. There were two School Leaving Certificate Examinations of the University of Cambridge, one in July and one in December.

81. An examination for the Institute of Fire Engineers was held in March.

82. In January, an examination for Junior Probationary Clerkships was conducted.

83. An examination for the Corporation of Accountants, Glasgow, was held in November.

# HEALTH.

84. Dr. Minett carried on school medical work through the year. Dr. Laing left in September for study in England; Dr. Au King being appointed in his place. The three school nurses worked throughout the year.

85. 1,078 new entrants in the schools were examined, and 581 defects found. 1,064 were re-inspected for defects, of which 566 had improved.

86. 305 cases of defective vision were seen; 265 pairs of spectacles were provided. With this provision, the estimated and supplementary votes for the year were exhausted, and further work had to be postponed.

87. The School Clinic at Ellis Kadoorie School was supplemented by a second at Yaumati School. In the two Clinics, 1,286 examinations and treatments have been given. Trachoma has been much benefited by regular treatment.

88. The school nurses have paid 442 visits in the homes and have tested 1,037 children for vision defect.

89. Notified cases of infectious disease in all schools totalled 159. No serious epidemic occurred in any school.
