278. Item 7, Pipe Line.-This work was referred to in paragraph 250 Item 7 of last year's Report. By the end of July the Pipe Line was completed and brought into operation, delivering water to the Elliot Slow Sand Filters by means of the subsidiary 12″ dia. connection. On completion of the new Fast Gravity Beds water was delivered directly to them. The pipe line which consists of 18" and 21" effective dia. steel tubes 1" thick having 1″ thick bitumastic internal lining and bitumen impregnated hessian single wrapping outside is divided into the following sections:

Aberdeen Upper Dam to Lower Pumping Station 18" internal dia. 4,980 lineal feet Lower Pumping Station to Telegraph Bay Syphon 18” internal dia. 11,965 Telegraph Bay Syphon (steel 9/32″ thick 18″ internal dia.) Telegraph Bay Syphon to Sandy Bay Gap 18" internal dia. 1,200 Sandy Bay Gap open cuts & Tunnel to Gauge Basin.. 1J Sandy Bay Gap to Elliot Rapid Gravity Beds 21" internal dia. 3,363 ܙ 546

279. The pipe line at Telegraph Bay Syphon is designed to take an additional pressure from Pokfulam Reservoir and consists of 18" effective dia. steel tubes 9/32" thick having " thick bitumastic internal lining and hessian outside wrapping as above. The connection from Pokfulam Reservoir has not yet been laid.

280. The Upper Pumping Station is connected by means of an 18" internal dia. steel branch main and the slow sand beds at Elliot are connected by a subsidiary 12″ internal dia. steel main.

281. Item 8, Pumping Station-Aberdeen Upper Pumping Station. This work was referred to in paragraph 250 Item 8 of last year's Report. A contract for the building of the Pumping Station was let to Messrs. Kin Lee & Co. on 4th May, 1931 for $5,372.95 By the end of August the building contract was finished and by the end of September the installation of the pump and electric motor completed. After successful tests in October the pump was put into operation in pumping out the
