274. Item 3, East Catchwater.-This work was referred to in paragraph 250 Item 3 of last year's Report. The 1st Section of this Catchwater was satisfactorily completed in October. This Section which is 4,900 lineal feet in length drains an area of 145 acres of the southern slopes of Mount Cameron and is designed to carry the run off from 314 acres at the maximum rate of one inch per hour while the overflows are designed to discharge excess rainfall at the rate of 3" per hour. The invert and sides to a height of one foot above invert are of cement concrete 6" thick and the sides above that level are constructed of lime and cement concrete 6" thick. Along the outside of the catchwater a path six feet wide has been formed with bridges over the overflows. Ten sandpits and washouts have been constructed where necessary and a stepped outfall has been carried down to twenty feet below the Aberdeen Upper Dam's Top Water Level. The catchwater, which roughly runs along the 380 contour, at the outfall section is seven feet wide at the bottom, twelve feet wide at overflow level and six feet deep.
275. Item 4, West Catchwater.-This work was referred to in paragraph 250 Item 4 of last year's Report. After considerable delay owing to the withdrawal of the lowest tenderer a contract for the first section of this Catchwater was let to Messrs. Foo Loong & Co. for $136,454.00 in December. Work had not commenced by the end of the year.
276. Item 5, Bennetts Hill Catchwater. This work was referred to in paragraph 250 of last year's Report. Towards the end of the year preliminary work for this Catchwater was commenced.
277. Item 6, Existing Dam Alterations.-This work was referred to in paragraph 250 Item 6 of last year's Report. In December a small contract for demolishing a portion of the dam for purposes of investigation and reconstruction was let to Messrs. Foo Loong & Co. for $10,875.00. Good progress was made with this work and before the end of the year the plans for reconstruction were under preparation.
