215. Construction of Rubble mound at North Point to retain materials dumped.--This work was referred to in paragraph 227 of last year's Report. The rubble mound is placed on the lines of a future street parallel to and approximately 400 feet back from the seaward limit of the proposed reclamation. The progress during the year was restricted owing to limitation of expenditure due to the financial situation. Government Grab Dredger No. 2 completed the dredging of 250 lineal feet of trench, making a total of approximately 500 feet varying in depth from twenty to twenty-five feet. Since the commencement of the Contract in June, 1930, approximately 22,479 cube yards of rubble has been deposited to approved lines and levels, the total amount of rubble deposited during the ensuing year being 11,347 cube yards. This rubble mound will be used for foundations to a temporary Sea wall for a distance of approximately 1,600 lineal feet as the filling in of the back area proceeds, unless construction of the sea wall on the seaward limit is undertaken in the meantime. The placing of berm stones and the levelling of the mound for the cement concrete footings was carried out at suitable low tides.
